Description

Latino Mental Health in the Age of the Affordable Care Act

Plenary Session, Stakeholder Panel,

Poster Presentation, and Reception

Attendees are invited to a Reception at 6:30pm

This conference is free of cost but pre-registration is required.

Mental health disparities affect Latinos in the areas of assessment, diagnosis, access to services, quality of care, training, and research. There are few Latino researchers and limited research focused on the mental health of this group.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Affordable Care Act) is creating new opportunities to reduce health disparities among minorities. We are delighted to provide a venue in which to spotlight and encourage up-and-coming researchers in Latino mental health and to engage stakeholders in a discussion about programmatic, policy, and research priorities to address mental health disparities affecting Latinos.

Highlights of the program:

  • Keynote Speech by Dr. Margarita Alegría, Director of the Center for Multicultural Mental Health Research at Cambridge Health Alliance and Professor of Psychology at Harvard Medical School.

  • Stakeholder panel discussions focusing on the impact of the Affordable Care Act in New York State and New York City.

  • Poster session and simultaneous reception featuring young investigators working on Latino mental health who will present their research, chosen from a nationwide competition.

Open to mental health providers, mental health advocates, community and mental health agency leaders, and anyone with an interest in Latino mental health.

Presented by the American Psychiatric Association’s Division of Diversity and Health Equity in collaboration with the American Society of Hispanic Psychiatry and New York State Psychiatric Institute Center of Excellence for Cultural Competence.
